Key issues
One of the key issues to be addressed by the Insitute is prevention
of disease. Studies of children as
young as 14 have shown worrying evidence of cardiovascular disease
present in about 20% of those studied. The unique combination
of expertise in vascular biology, cardiac disease, nutrition, epidemiology
and basic laboratory science will allow early
detection and intervention in disease processes from a very
early age. The key issue is a major initiative which links the expertise
found within all the groups. |
Phase 1
Complete!
The successful completion of the £2.5m first phase of this funding
initiative ensures there is a designated area for clinically
focussed patient research, the purchase of equipment
and the employment of a Research Administrator.
Phase 2 Complete!
Phase 2 raised funding for new laboratories
where the basic science will be translated into improved treatments
