My area of interest is in Arrhythmias caused by acquired disease, as well as those by genetic disease, and their treatment. There is an increasing incidence of acquired arrhythmia, the most common being atrial fibrillation leading to a significant burden on healthcare resources. Understanding the causes of this increasing incidence and testing new treatments are important and essential to improve the patient outcomes. Arrhythmias, due to genetic conditions, often present for the first time with a sudden unexpected death in a young person. Diagnosing the underlying genetic cause is important in order to test other close family members who may similarly be at risk, but if identified early, can be offered lifesaving treatment.
